1. About Beside Math
Beside Math is an online K-12 mathematics learning platform that connects parents and students through real-time coaching features, curriculum-aligned problem sets, and progress analytics. The service is provided by Beside Math ("we," "us," or "our"), and is available at https://besidemath.com.
Early access. Beside Math is currently in a free early access period. The service is free during it, features may change, and some are still being built. These Terms apply to that period as much as to a paid subscription later.
Live Sync. The platform includes a feature that lets an adult on the account watch a student's practice session in real time and coach them through it. What a session carries, and what is and is not retained, is described in our Privacy Policy.
2. Eligibility & Account Registration
To use Beside Math, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old, or have the consent of a parent or legal guardian
- Provide accurate and complete registration information
- Maintain the security of your account credentials
Beside Math is designed for family use. Parents register and manage accounts on behalf of their children (students). Student access is granted through the parent's account under a single-family model.
3. Subscriptions & Billing
3.1 Plans
Beside Math has a free plan and two paid subscriptions. The price of a paid subscription depends on how many students are on your account:
- Free: $0. One student profile, the full curriculum, hints, Live Sync and the parent coaching guide. No payment method is collected.
- Plus Monthly: $4.99/month, which includes one student. Each additional student is $1.99/month.
- Plus Annual: ten times the monthly total, billed yearly — $49.90/year for one student, plus $19.90/year for each additional student. That is two months free, about 17%.
- Small Group Monthly: $14.99/month, which includes five student seats. Each additional seat is $2.99/month.
- Small Group Annual: ten times the monthly total — $149.90/year for five seats, plus $29.90/year for each additional seat.
Paid subscriptions open in January 2027. Until then every account is on the Free plan with all features available, and nothing is charged.
Adding a student in the middle of a billing period is charged only for the days remaining in that period. On a monthly plan the prorated amount appears on your next invoice; on an annual plan it is charged when you add the student. Removing a student does not create a credit — the lower price takes effect at your next renewal.
During the early access period, Beside Math is free of charge and no payment method is collected. Before paid subscriptions begin, we will notify you by email with reasonable advance notice; no account is moved to a paid plan automatically, and no charge is ever made unless you explicitly enroll in one.
3.2 Automatic Renewal
Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date. You authorize us to charge your payment method on file for each renewal.
3.3 Refund Policy
If you are not satisfied with Beside Math, contact us within 14 days of your first paid charge at [email protected] and we will issue a full refund. Refund requests made after 14 days are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
3.4 Plan Changes & Cancellation
You may upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your subscription at any time from the Billing section of your account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain access until then. We do not provide prorated refunds for mid-cycle cancellations except where required by law.
4. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Beside Math is directed to parents and families. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Student accounts are created and controlled by a parent or legal guardian (the account holder). We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
Before any information about a child is collected, the adult creating the profile is shown a plain-language notice of exactly what we keep and what we never ask for, and must give permission for that named child as a separate, affirmative step. Accepting these Terms is not by itself permission for a child's data. Each permission is recorded with the date and the version of these documents it was given under, and we email the account holder a receipt of what was agreed — so anyone whose address was used without their knowledge finds out the same day. What we collect is set out in our Privacy Policy.
You may withdraw that permission at any time by writing to [email protected]. Withdrawing it means we stop collecting and delete what we hold about that child; it also means the child can no longer use the service, because the service cannot work without recording what they answered. If you believe we have collected data from a child without a guardian's permission, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Share account credentials with individuals outside your family
- Use the platform for commercial tutoring or resale without written permission
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract curriculum content in bulk
- Submit false, offensive, or harmful content through any platform feature
- Circumvent access controls or security measures
6. Intellectual Property
All content on Beside Math — including curriculum questions, hints, coaching guides, graphics, and software — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by copyright. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the platform for personal, non-commercial family learning purposes.
7. Service Availability
We strive for high uptime but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Scheduled maintenance, updates, and circumstances beyond our control may cause temporary outages. We will attempt to notify users in advance of planned downtime.
We may also change, suspend, or discontinue the service, or any part of it. During early access that includes ending the programme itself. If we discontinue the service we will give you reasonable notice by email, and you will be able to request a copy of your data, or its deletion, before it stops — see Your Rights in the Privacy Policy. If you have paid for a period you have not received, we will refund the unused part.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
Beside Math is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the platform will be error-free, that results will be accurate, or that the service will meet your specific requirements.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the platform. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid to Beside Math in the 12 months preceding the claim.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or via a notice in your account dashboard at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in San Francisco County, California.

Beside Math is operated from California by Henry Kang, as a sole proprietor. A limited liability company is being formed; when it is, it becomes the party to these Terms and we will say so here.
